Be Indian. Adopt an Indian Dog

Below are photos of the female street dog named LEAH adopted by Indian Cricket Team’s Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and shared on his and his wife’s social media accounts last year sometime.

Hope Dhoni’s act of giving home to a street dog inspires a few more Indians to follow suit and shed this apparent craze to adopt only Pedigree dogs and foriegn breeds; which only promotes an unregulated and cruel dog breeding market in India.

  1. A truly inspirational story from Ranchi. Kudos to Mr. Dhoni for setting such a fine example.

The unconditional affection shown by dogs to their “caretakers” makes the “adoption” all the more worthwhile.

The streets of Mumbai are filled with several such stories where one can see many young and destitute children looking after stray dogs …. sharing their meagre possessions be it a piece of bread or a torn sheet to sleep on. These children not only show other more fortunate brethren, what compassionate means but learn from their bonding with their dogs on team building and upliftment.

With more people adopting dogs, the world would get to be a more “humane” place.

  2. I already have an Indian dog named “KoKo”. my whole family loves him so much. But the society never changes. Whenever i go out to walk him everyone calls him a “gali ka kutta” and “ugly”. People look at me like i am some illiterate person, like i don’t know anything. They would rather buy a white “cute” puppy than adopt one from street.

    • People will say what they have to…IGNORE. These people ‘value’ superficial beauty…and can’t understand its a dog’s unconditional love and heart that is endearing to you not how he looks…next time they tell you any rubbish…just say “aunty/uncle, Koko is an Indian like you and me”

  3. Ajay Khandeira , why only male dogs? A female dog after being spayed is just like a male dog. I have two Indian female dogs – mother ( 3 years, ivory coloured and spayed) and daughter ( 9 months, white with black patches). Would you, or anyone else you know, like to adopt them?

    • I wanted Black Dog and not Male Dog. But I got Male so I adopted, if it was female , I was suppose to adopt. There is is no sex in discrimination.

    • Its like gaining publicity on the name of humanity. When you and me adopt n one takes the heed of the same.

E.g. : Recently Hema Mailini BMW hit and a Child Girl died, all TV channels were showing Hema Malini and not the family of the victim.

      • We disagree with you. Adopting a homeless animal was M.S Dhoni’s act, the news story trigerred a trend of many other Ranchi people adopting Indian dogs…its good this news got some press because we Indians blindly follow celebrity actions. If we come to know other celebrities who do good acts for animals welfare we will post those things too as they set a good example to follow. Hema Malini’s story was of an accident whereas this is about adoption!

  5. I have recently adopted a 1 year indie who was stray and slept outside the transformer building of our office building. She is bachoo, my bachoo. My dad has Daboo and we got Max and Ripper adopted. My friend adopted Trippy who was in a cage in Mumbai ( to be sold of we suppose for illegal dog meat ). And now here I am looking for a lovely home for Babu who is looked after by office security guards and is approx 4 years old. I want him to stay in Hyderabad so I can visit him sometimes. Is there any family looking for a sweet child?
